Formerly known as the Yeelo Mothers Forum, Suuban is an integral part of life at Yeelo, with volunteering mothers as dedicated coordinators and participants. The group is well organised and meet once a month to discuss and plan best ways to support each other and the community in their own way.
Monthly guest speakers on key topics of interest to them and their families. These topics range from health, education and general wellbeing of the family and community. Some of the topics covered thus far include: Breast Cancer awareness with a Breast Cancer survivor, TB Awareness, FGM, Diabetes, General Health Checks, Employment Opportunities, Childcare Vouchers, Universal Credit, Youth Crime, Importance of family in Islam, etc…
The group raise their funds solely through the membership fee of £60 per year and per person. These funds are then used to support various activities for students as appropriately as possible
Mothers & Daughters
Suuban is the initiator and organiser of the unique and eagerly awaited yearly M&D event where all mothers and daughters have fun, away from the bustling and hustling of Yeelo. It will be holding its 5th M&D in 2019, planning to mark the Yeelo's 10th year anniversary in a special way.
Currently the only sponsor of the yearly GCSE award event held to acknowledge and encourage hard work and success among students who demonstrated the values in the Yeelo Way.
Their contribution to Yeelo, like most Somali mothers around the globe, is priceless. The Board of Trustees, Management Team, wider staff members and student remain forever grateful
